Day 37: Sport madness

Today we rented a bicycle and explored the other side of the Mersey.
After we took the ferry across the river, we went along the coast to a place called West-kirby (approximately 10mijl - 16km).
Then we saw a little island (Hilbre Island) witch is only accessible on low tide.
We thought nice place, lets drink something there.
We started biking trough the sand (witch was intensive) and after 1km biking trough the sand and exhausted as hell we got on the little island.
On the island we needed to bike a little more uphill and saw only normal houses, no cafĂ©, bar or restaurant...
Peter was very mad about this and almost throw his bike in the sea (picture).
Behind him you can see Wales by the way.
Nothing to do about our thirstiness out there, so we biked back to the shore to look for some dinner and drinks(!).
Finally we got back on to the shore!

After getting to a supermarket for lots of drinks we recuperated and started to drive back to the ferry.
At this point was driving on the left side of the road not weird any more,
so this time we didn't drove along the coast but across the country side.
After crossing allot of hills we got back to the ferry terminal.

This must be the most exhausting day in Liverpool so far.
Maybe it's a good idea to do every week some sport,
next week we scheduled wall climbing.

Day 36: Killer pigeons

It seems pigeons in the city always try to kill you by flying into you, although they always just avoid you by inches.

Day 10: Ironing

Ironing in Liverpool - Timelapse from Jaan Meert on Vimeo.

Today no photo but a timelapse movie from our loveliest occupation: Ironing!
I slightly have the feeling that my iron board moved.

Day 9: Photowall

Day 9, Saturday, 1 week in Liverpool, time to wash our clothes for the first time.
It went well, no colours mixed and nothing turned out smaller then it was before.
Today I also hung up my photo's, as you see its today picture.
We also went to Alice in Wonderland in the cinema of FACT.
It was my first 3D movie, to be honest it was great.

Tomorrow ironing day!

Day 8: Our workplace

Today was our real first workday.
This is our place for the next 3 months,
although we need to move next week temporarily to the archive.

Day 7: FACT

Today I was a little late with the daily photo,
this because after work there was a new exhibition opening
with a reception ect...
After that we went to a place called tapas tapas and ate some food
with colleagues.
Then we went to a local pub with even more colleagues.
So we went home a little late to publish the daily photo right on time.

Now, the photo:
This is fact from the outside.
On the top floor you can find FACT HQ where all the staff works.
All the other floors are cinema, exhibition, bar, ...
It's a really nice place to be, more photos of the inside on the next days.

Day 6: Rat, the anagram of Art

This giant rat is a nice piece of work from the famous graffiti artist called Banksy.
Now its a listed building, so Art rat will not disappear from the street view.

The building is recently sold,
normally almost nobody would care about a building like this.
But Banksy's work made it worth a lot of money, it's sold for £14 000.

Day 5: Hi neighbours

It's kind of a weird sight to look around in the neighbourhood.
Much houses are abandon, windows are closed, doors are reinforced, and walls are surrounded by barbed wire.
In the street I live in, around 50% of the houses are like that.
The next 4-5 streets are completely abandon.
People are paid to leave, some people - like the lady I live with - absolutely want to stay.

Why, Liverpool City Council wants to demolish 11 streets like this to build some new houses and apartments.
To me it seems some history disappears, it are really nice Victorian terraced houses.

It's still weird to see much of the neighbourhood like this,
but it's a safe and quiet area.

Day 1: Are you ready?

3/04/2010

Let's have a good time

As you probably know I leave our pretty Belgium for a three month internship.
Liverpool will be my new home for these few months.
To keep everyone posted on my adventure, I started this blog.

Writing is not exactly my passion, photography sure is.
So every day from tomorrow (5 March) to 12 June - exactly 100 days - you can expect a picture which will tell something more about that day.
My slogan is: One picture a day keeps the doctor away (Let's hope it works).

Offcourse from time to time I will add some of my writing 'talent',
but far from every day.

Be my guest to check this blog
